First smallie trip

First of all the river is looking great. As of right now, just started raining. I will post an update in morning. Tornado watch here.

Fishing was slow over the weekend. Lot of people out. But not many floaters. Week before was really hot for trout. White, brown, and olive were hot woolly colors. Y2ks some days.

Ok now the first smallie trip of 2021, it was slow but so much fun. About 4 rainbows and about 8 smallies. Very slow on the bite all day. Only fly we caught smallies on was a olive sculpin pattern. It was such a great float. Amazing scenery on that stretch of river, very remote. We start our smallmouth trips at Many Islands Campground and float to the low water bridge just above hardy. About a six mile float. Lots of waterfalls and slow water stretches. The smallie guide trips are not for the beginner. It is full blown streamer action. Lots of casting woollies and sculpin patterns. And stripping the fly back to the boat. Clouser minnows are another favorite fly for smallmouth. Benjamin will be guiding on the South Fork of the Spring soon also. Smallmouth bass have become a new passion for us. I hope we can all share some time on the water together.

Tight lines!
