Yesterday, Jim Hinkle Spring River State Fish Hatchery staff stocked approximately 9,500 Brown Trout into Spring River. These fish were of an average length of 9 inches. Stocking Brown Trout is a specific management strategy outlined in the Spring River Trout Fishery Management Plan (https://drive.google.com/file/d/15aO5ZC-U6mLDNEpPaxZViTzOUfTWuBaL/view?usp=sharing). Additionally, most individuals were marked with a freeze brand which will allow the Trout Management Program to evaluate growth and survival of Brown Trout in the river. Brown Trout stocked in 2021 were also marked so that fish from the 2021 and 2022 cohorts can be differentiated out in the field.
